Frequently Asked Questions

Q:When should I plan to arrive at the event?
A:The event casually runs from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. If you plan to hit every stop, then plan to arrive at 4:00 PM and attend for all five hours.
Q:Where does the event start?
A:The event can start wherever you want but you must pick up your registration materials at Baron's Pub located at 500 High Street between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM.
Q:How can I get to the event?
A:Parking is available at any of the parking lots listed on the Portsmouth Visitor Information website. Street parking may also be available in certain areas. We do highly recommend that you carpool if traveling by car. A popular alternative to driving and parking is to ride the Paddlewheel Ferry from downtown Norfolk ($1.50).
Q:Do I have to pay to participate?
A:Yes. Remember, all proceeds from this event go directly to charity.
Q:What do I get in return for paying my registration fee?
A:For your registration fee, you receive an event T-shirt, souvenir cup, souvenir magnet, guide map of crawl locations, other promotional items, and a wristband good for specials at all sponsoring establishments.
Q:When will my "tickets" arrive in the mail?
A:Never. As noted on our registration page, all of your registration materials must be picked up in person at the registration booth on the day of the event between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM. We do not ship any registration materials.
Q:Do I have to wear my event T-shirt and/or drink out of my souvenir cup?
A:No. You only need to wear the wristband at the event in order to participate.
Q:What do I do at the event?
A:Have a great time and make some new friends! You may also want to play one or more of the games that we traditionally run at each pub crawl.
Q:Do I have to visit the crawl locations in a specific order?
A:No. You can visit the locations in any order you choose.
Q:Where do I claim my game prizes?
A:Competition prizes will be awarded during the closing ceremony, held sometime shortly after 9:00 PM at Paddy O'Brian's.
Q:Do I have to be present at the closing ceremony to claim my prize?
A:For the Texas Hold 'Em Tournament and Bar Tour Bingo games, you must be present at the end to claim your prize. For the 50/50 cash raffle, you do NOT have to be present to win. If the raffle winner is not present, we will post the winning raffle ticket number on this website and the winner will have one week to contact us and claim their prize.
Q:Can I bring my drink with me between crawl locations?
A:All participants must heed the State of Virginia's open container law - do not carry any alcoholic beverages with you off the premises of the establishments you are visiting. Citations are not covered with your registration fee!
Q:How do I get home?
A:After the event, please GET HOME SAFELY! If you do not have a designated driver, please find one or let us know and we will work to make arrangements for you. Plan ahead to stay in Olde Towne at the Governor Dinwiddie Hotel & Suites, ride the Paddlewheel Ferry ($1.50 to downtown Norfolk), or get a cab (approx. $8.00 to downtown Norfolk). Our popular pub crawls cannot continue to happen if participants are not responsible.
Q:How much of the money collected goes to charity?
A:As will all Ghent Bar Tours events, 100% of the money collected before and during the event goes directly to charity.
